Universal Technical Institute, Inc. (UTI) provides postsecondary education for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians.
It works with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the automotive, diesel, motorcycle and marine industries. It offers undergraduate degree, diploma and certificate programs at 11 campuses across the United States under the banner of several brands, including Universal Technical Institute (UTI), Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and Marine Mechanics Institute (collectively, MMI) and NASCAR Technical Institute (UTI/NTI). It also offers manufacturer-specific training programs, including both student paid electives at its campuses and manufacturer or dealer sponsored training at training centers. During the year ended September 30, 2010 (fiscal 2010), its average undergraduate enrollment was 18,600 full-time students.
Through the Company’s campus-based school system, it offers technical education programs under the banner of, including Universal Technical Institute (UTI), Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and Marine Mechanics Institute (collectively, MMI) and NASCAR Technical Institute (UTI/NTI). The undergraduate programs are designed to be completed in 45 to 96 weeks and culminate in an associate of occupational studies degree, diploma or certificate, depending on the program and campus. While attending one of its undergraduate programs, students may participate in manufacturer specific training programs, which are offered at its campus locations. The Company offers manufacturer specific advanced training (MSAT) programs. These programs are offered in facilities, in which OEMs supply the vehicles, equipment, specialty tools and curricula. It also provides continuing education and training to experienced technicians.
Universal Technical Institute (UTI)
UTI offers automotive, diesel and industrial, and collision repair and refinishing programs. It also offers the BMW FastTrack elective, which is taught by UTI at BMW’s Ontario, California training center, the Avondale, Arizona campus, and the Orlando, Florida BMW training center; the cummins qualified technician program (CQTP) elective at its Avondale, Arizona and Houston, Texas campuses; the Daimler trucks finish elective at its Avondale, Arizona campus; the international truck elective program (ITEP) at its Glendale Heights, Illinois campus; the Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC elective program at its Rancho Cucamonga, California and Norwood, Massachusetts campuses; the Nissan Automotive Technician Training (NATT) program at its Houston, Texas; Mooresville, North Carolina; Sacramento, California; Orlando, Florida and Norwood, Massachusetts campuses, and the Toyota Professional Automotive Technician (TPAT) elective at its Glendale Heights, Illinois, Exton, Pennsylvania and Sacramento, California campuses.
The Company offers the programs under the UTI brand, including automotive technology, diesel and industrial technology, automotive/diesel technology, automotive/diesel and industrial technology and collision repair and refinishing technology (CRRT). The automotive technology program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair automobiles. The diesel and industrial technology program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair diesel systems and industrial equipment. The automotive/diesel technology program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair automobiles and diesel systems. The automotive/diesel & industrial technology program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair automobiles, diesel systems and industrial equipment. The CRRT program is designed to teach students how to repair non-structural and structural automobile damage, as well as how to prepare cost estimates on all phases of repair and refinishing.
Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and Marine Mechanics Institute (collectively, MMI)
The MMI program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. The MMI program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair boats and personal watercraft.
NASCAR Technical Institute (UTI/NTI)
UTI/NTI offers automotive training with additional NASCAR-specific courses. In the NASCAR-specific courses, students have the opportunity to learn with NASCAR engines and equipment and to acquire automotive and racing-related career opportunities.
Manufacturer Specific Advanced Training Programs
The Company’s advanced programs offers instruction on specific manufacturers’ products. The programs range from 14 to 24 weeks in duration. The manufacturer also supplies vehicles, equipment, specialty tools and curricula for the courses. It offers manufacturer specific training programs for the OEMs, including BMW of North America, LLC, Navistar International Corp., Porsche Cars of North America, Inc. and Volvo Cars of North America, Inc.
Dealer/Industry Training
The Company provides dealer technician training to manufacturers. It includes American Honda Motor Co., Inc., BMW of North America, LLC, Harley-Davidson Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC, and Volvo Penta of the Americas, Inc.
The Company competes with Lincoln Educational Services Corporation and Corinthian Colleges, Inc.
