A great investment idea is one where you have specific information that places you in opposition to the consensus.
You need to know two things in this situation. First, you need to know what the consensus believes. And second, you need some specific information that disproves that consensus.
Where do we find actionable specific information? Generally through our personal experiences.
Peter Lynch has written a series of books on “How to Use What You Already Know To Make Money in the Market.” His advice boils down to using your personal experiences to provide specific information for profitable investing.
Most of my time on this website will be spent capturing a current consensus for growth prospects in the venture capital community. In general, I believe venture capitalists have a more informed, longer term perspective on growth trends than the public equity markets.
I will use those consensus growth prospects to guide my search for investable stocks.
A great investment idea, however, does not come simply through the in-depth spade work I will be doing on this website. A great investment idea needs more — it needs the addition of personal experience in the category and company in question. In the process of running this site, I will keep my eyes peeled for great investment ideas; ones where my own (or someone else’s) personal experieces could prove the consensus wrong.
