MeetUp Inc., the New York-based “Web meets world” company, has raised $7.5 million in Series D funding.  “Use the Internet to get off the Internet!  Meetup Groups are today’s support groups, parent playgroups, citizen groups, fitness groups, book clubs, professional groups, and other powerful local groups!”  (many elements of a social networking website.)
