Illumitex raises $10,500,000

Illumitex Inc., an Austin-based semiconductor industry startup that is developing optical technology, has raised about $10.5 million in venture capital.  Illumitex declined to comment on its business or funding, but CEO Matthew Thomas said in a statement that the company is “developing LED-based luminaires for lighting applications.”  Illumitex’s only publicly announced deal was in 2006, when Competitive Technologies Inc. licensed optical device technology developed by Illumitex.  Competitive Technologies, a technology-licensing company based in Fairfield, Conn., said it was going to use Illumitex’s device to improve so-called high brightness LEDs. Competitive Tech said the advanced LEDs could improve semiconductors without increasing power consumption, size, or manufacturing costs.  Thomas said Wednesday the licensing deal is no longer in effect.
